Consultative Workshop on Healthcare and Preventive Measures for Female Genital Mutilation/Cutting held in Mauche- Njoro. The consultative workshop is organized and conducted by Africa Coordinating Centre for the Abandonment of Female Genital Mutilation/Cutting (ACCAF). The training was dubbed Consultative Workshop on Healthcare and Prevention of FGM/C because it is providing a platform for the community’s representatives to share their ideas and challenges faced in their effort to spearhead the abandonment of FGM/C in their area. The capacity building uses a strategy of training 25–30 participants at a time who consequently design culturally sensitive approaches that they will use in their community to cause behavior change. Mauche Division was selected due to the recently reported cases of re-emergence of female genital mutilation/cutting in the area, which prompted ACCAF to engage the community. This would help in getting a deeper understanding of the practices re-emergence. The prevalence of the practice had been declining over the years in the country as indicated by the KDHS 1999, 2003, 2009. It was not until the 2007/2008 Post Election Violence, that members of these county reported that they saw the re-emerge of FGM/C in the area.  This training thus aim to equip the community leaders as champions of change, with skills to ensure they cause a positive influence to assist the community to abandon the practice of FGM/C. ACCAF also uses this platform as a forum to evaluate and support programs that were initiated by these participants themselves to monitor progress and to change strategies where needed. The community members that have been trained so far include members of the provincial administration (chiefs and assistant chiefs), religious leaders, traditional birth attendants, teachers, traditional circumcisers, community youth leaders, student leaders, young professionals around the community, leaders from faith based organizations, community based organizations, civil society organizations among others.
