The workshop aimed at sensitizing health care providers on the medicalization of FGM/C, sourcing their experiences, and understanding their role in accelerating the abandonment of FGM/C.

Facilitators for the workshop included Prof. Joseph Karanja who educated the participants on different medical complications that arise following the FGM/C operation. The socio cultural session was held by Prof. Violet Kimani and it outlined six parts societal identity, coming of age, gender dynamics, dynamics of change, decision making, and Fertility Reproductive health and childbirth. We also had Dr. Meroka from the school of law who educated the members on the legal aspects and human rights sought to inform the medical providers on the various laws that prohibit FGM/C, and the ways that the law influences the health care practice in relation to FGM/C.
